11495131117City of TorontoCanada, North AmericaCanadaEmissions ReductionMitigation Target setting5.2aPlease identify and describe the conditional components of your city-wide emissions reduction target(s).0The City of Toronto’s capability to reach its' city-wide emissions reduction targets are supported through policy and funding from federal and provincial levels of government. For example, the City of Toronto has two regulations that are based upon legal authority given to us by the provincial government - the Green Taxi By-law and Toronto’s Official Plan. If both higher levels of government were better aligned with the ambition articulated in TransformTO, Toronto’s emission reduction targets would be more easily facilitated.

Toronto has also undertaken specific research on these benefits found here:- https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/8f33-Benefits-of-Actions-to-Reduce-Greenhouse-Gas-Emissions-in-Toronto-Health-and-Health-Equity.pdf- https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/96ef-Benefits-of-Actions-to-Reduce-GG-Emissions-in-Toronto-Prosperity-and-Socio-Economic-Equity.pdf-https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/971c-Benefits-of-Actions-to-Reduce-Greenhouse-Gas-Emissions-in-Toronto-Climate-Resilience.pdfSynergies with adaptation have also been topic of research and study. Results from this work can be found here:https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/971c-Benefits-of-Actions-to-Reduce-Greenhouse-Gas-Emissions-in-Toronto-Climate-Resilience.pdfIn an effort to ensure climate action delivers on broad potential benefits, the Environment and Energy Division (EED) has initiated two parallel tracks of activity: • building internal capacity to analyze the equity impacts of program and policy design and delivery, and • evaluating which benefit opportunities are the most significant for climate action in Toronto.
