11884131185City of WarsawEuropePolandIntroduction0.1Please give a general description and introduction to your city including your city’s reporting boundary in the table below.2Description of city1City boundarySince year 2007 we in Warsaw started to think seriously about new ideas and projects in the field of sustainable development – which can achieve the goal of making our city a real “green city”. All our sustainability-related actions, in addition to other benefits like creation of new jobs in innovative sectors, shall contribute to achieving our fundamental goals, which are: decreasing CO2 emissions, reduction of energy consumption and limitation of associated costs. As a result of this approach, in 2009 Warsaw joined the Covenant of Mayors, a widely known initiative under patronage of the European Commission, which associates European local governments acting on rational management of energy and limiting climate change. Following this act, on September 8, 2011 the Council of Warsaw adopted a Sustainable Energy Action Plan for Warsaw in the perspective of year 2020. It is the first document of this magnitude that presents an integrated approach to energy management at the level of Warsaw local government. Main features of the capital city of Poland: administrative area: 517 km² inhabitants, within this area: 1.79 million inhabitants, within agglomeration: up to 3.3 million, density of population: 3420 per km², registered enterprises: 437829, budget expenditure for 2018: $ 4.4, billion, unemployment: 1.9%.
