The City boundaries encompass 58 square miles of land. Within the western portion of the City lies Grassy Waters Preserve, a wetland ecosystem which forms theheadwaters of the City's drinking water supply. The City is bordered on the eastern side by the Lake Worth Lagoon, which is part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. West Palm Beach has a tropical climate, characterized by typically hot and humid weather in the summer, giving way mild and relatively drier winters. This climate pattern contributes to a variety of ecosystems including freshwater marshes, cypressswamps, and pine flatwoods in the undeveloped areas of West Palm Beach. There are approximately 108,000 residents in the City limits, and is expected to continue to grow into the future. West Palm Beach’scurrent Mayor, Keith A. James, is active in making West Palm Beach a truly sustainable and resilient city for its growing population by participating in regional and national climate action programs.
