La ville de Bouaké qui est située au centre de la Cote d’Ivoire, à environ 350 km d’Abidjan, s’étend sur une superficie de près de 7178,8 ha dont 2122 ha de superficie urbanisee. Le diagnostic de la commune de Bouake a ete effectue sur la base des 50quartiers issus du repertoire des quartiers elabores dans le cadre du plan d'urgence de production des statistiques de base.Cette situation géographique est renforcée par un facteur de sociabilité cosmopolite de taille : Bouaké est caractérisée par une diversité de peuplement, majoritairement composé de Dioulas, de Baoulés, avec une forte présence d’étrangers (Burkinabé, Malien et Sénégalais, entre autres)la ville de Bouake est situee sur un plateau avec une altitude moyenne de 310 m. Ce plateau fait une legere inclinaison d'Ouest en Est : de 390 m a l'Ouest du Camp penal, l'altitude s'abaisse progressivement pour atteindre 240 m pres du monastere benedictin a l'Est. Trois bassins versants se partagent ce plateau : auNord le bassin de la Loka, au Sud, celui du Kan et a l'Est, celui du Soungourou. Avec leurs rubans marecageux, la Loka et le Kan morcellent l'espace de la ville isolant ainsi les quartiers et allongeant les distances. Les lits sont peu profonds et les pentes egalement peu prononcees.Avec un climat de type subequatorial de transition, Bouake connait une variation saisonniere assez marquee. Elle enregistre deux a trois saisons, selon les annees, avec des variations pluviometriques assez importantes. La ville de Bouake enregistre une pluviometrie moyenne annuelle de 1200 mm qui peut etre repartie entre deux saisons des pluies d'assez courte duree : une premiere d'avril a juin et la seconde d'octobre a novembre. D'une maniere generale, les pluies tombent avec une forte intensite, ce quicontribue au ravinement tres marque dans la partie Sud de la ville : aux environs du sous-quartier Banco.La saison seche au niveau de la ville de Bouake qui dure pres de cinq mois, de novembre a mars est caracterisee par l'harmattan ou alize continental. Il s'agit d'une masse d'air issue de l'anticyclone du Sahara (ou anticyclone maghrebin), qui est chaud et sec et souvent charge de poussiere. Quant a la temperature, elle est en moyenne de 26°C et varie peu au cours de l'annee.En ce qui concerne la vegetation, elle est constituee de savane et de foret semi-decidue.On y trouve des zones boisees de forte densite sur les versants et des forets galeries le long des cours d'eau.Le reseau hydrographique, relativement dense est draine par le Bandama Blanc et ses affluents que sont le Kan et le N'zi et des marigots. Ils constituent un plan d'eau susceptible de jouer un rôle important dans le developpement des activites agro-pastorales du departement.Selon ces estimations, la population de la commune de Bouake est d'environ 715 435 habitants en 2013, soit un taux d'accroissement de 2,9% entre 1998 et 2013.La projection demographique faite sur la base de ce taux d'accroissement donne une population d'un peu plus d'un million cent sur un horizon de 15 ans. Ce qui necessite un renforcement des grands equipements et de la desserte de la ville, mais aussi une extension des zones d'habitation.L'etude de la structure de la population de Bouake, revele une legere predominance des hommes qui represente 50,2% de la population de la commune. Elle montre egalement l'extreme jeunesse de la population de la commune avec les moins de 15 ans qui representent 39,5% de la population totale.
