El promedio anual de la temperatura es de 18,8°C. Respecto a la precipitación, la estación meteorológica reporta un promedio anual de 2 579 mm, siendo septiembre y octubre los meses más lluviosos (405 mm y 428,6 mm respectivamente), y marzo y abril los meses con menor cantidad de lluvia (34,6 mm y 49,7 mm respectivamente).Por otra parte, el distrito posee grandes riquezas naturales y se desarrollan actividades como industria, servicios, comercio y turismo (Instituto de Desarrollo Rural, 2015). Siendo este último su principal motor económico.Dentro de las principales áreas protegidas están la Reserva Biológica Bosque Nuboso Monteverde, Reserva Biológica San Luis, Refugio de Vida Silvestre Reserva Curi-cancha, Santuario Ecológico Monteverde y reservas privadas como Bosque Eterno de los Niños, la más grande de Costa Rica, Universidad de Georgia (UGA), Instituto Monteverde, Centro de Educación Creativa, entre otros.
