If your country has an NDC and your city’s target is less ambitious than the NDC, please explain why.1Fossil energy consumption related to private cars represent 40% of total energy consumption in the transport sector in the municipality. Since Frederikshavn Municipality cannot affect the conversion of private cars fossil energy, neither fossil energy consumption of train operations, shipping and aircraft transportation, it is a political decision that there must be produced as much renewable energy in the municipality's geographical boundary that corresponds to fossil energy consumption of private cars, trains, shipping and aircraft transport.

14404458424GdańskEurope, PolandPolandIntroduction0.1Please give a general description and introduction to your city including your city’s reporting boundary in the table below.2Description of city1City boundaryGdańsk is a district city and the capital of Pomeranian Voivodeship located on the Baltic coast in the region of Zulawy (an alluvial lowland of the Vistula River) and Kaszuby Lakeland. Gdansk (where live more than 460,000 people) is in the sixth place in the ranking of the largest Polish cities. Gdansk is the largest economic center in northern Poland and has a strong influence on economic processes in the area. Here are located offices of the important, international financial, insurance and cultural institutions, specialized healthcare facilities, commercial and business units. Apart from the role of Gdansk in the Tricity metropolis, Gdansk is major city of the Gdansk Agglomeration. Other cities included in the agglomeration are: Gdynia, Hel, Jastarnia, Kartuzy, Pruszcz Gdanski, Reda, Rumia, Tczew, Sopot, Wejherowo, Zukowo. More than 1.25 million citizens living on the area of 3,719 km2 inhabit the entire agglomeration.Gdansk is also one of the main ports of Central and Eastern Europe and has an international airport connected with the most important European cities – Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) – with more than 3 million passengers in 2014.One of the main assets of the region is its favourable geographical situation, which provides excellent transport links. The Pomeranian region is situated in the northern part of Poland, on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea. Two pan-European transportation routes of key importance for transit traffic cross the region:• IA Corridor (Helsinki – Tallinn – Riga – Kaliningrad – Gdansk), which is a branch of the I Corridor (Helsinki – Tallinn – Riga – Kaunas – Warsaw);• VI Corridor (Gdansk – Katowice – Zilina), which connects Scandinavia with Central-Eastern Europe and the countries of the Mediterranean basin. There are two container terminals in Tricity area. First one, located in Gdansk (Deepwater Container Terminal) handled more than 1.150 million TEUs (twenty-feet equivalent units) in 2013, which means it is the biggest container terminal in terms of volume in Baltic area. Second terminal is located in Gdynia (Baltic Container Terminal) and has annual handling capacity of some 750.000 TEUs with potential of 1.2 million. These terminals located in ports of Gdansk and Gdynia handle approximately 1/3 of Polish intermodal transport. In thirteen Gdansk universities study nearly 80,000 students (almost 28 thousand of them study at University of Gdansk and 25 thousand at Gdansk University of Technology). Excellent accommodation, available conference facilities and opportunities for recreation make Gdansk a popular choice as a venue for all kind of events – for example the UEFA European Championship in 2012. Gdansk is also one of the most important tourist and cultural centres in Poland. It is a city with over 1,000 years of history, the cradle of the Solidarity movement. Numerous monuments, natural attractions and the possibility of active rest on the shores of the Baltic Sea are the reason why 6 million domestic and foreign tourists visit Gdansk on a yearly basis.
