Todos estos factores se clasifican en una escala de 1 a 5, donde 1 es un valor de IFA muy alto y 5 es un valor muy bajo. El valor de IFA muy alto implica una mayor cantidad de limitantes técnicas. Las limitantes técnicas serán esos aspectos que afecten la fragilidad de un lugar, por ejemplo, los deslizamientos, amenazas naturales, áreas protegidas, aptitud para uso agrícola, patrimonio, calidad paisajística, entre otros. Para cada factor se suman los indicadores y parámetros como corresponda según la metodología que se detalla más adelante; donde el resultado se promedia de acuerdo con el número de subfactores o variables que se utilicen. En algunos factores se encontraron casos donde la metodología no era aplicable por lo que se asignó un valor nulo en algunas zonas, y posteriormente se separaron las agrupaciones finales, calculando las agrupaciones del Factor únicamente con las variables que intervenían dentro del cálculo, para cada zona que se haya definido. Esta corrección se hace pues si se definiera un valor de 0 a las zonas nulas se estaría forzando la localidad hacia una susceptibilidad alta, y de asignar un valor de 5, se estaría incurriendo en un error de concepto al suponer una susceptibilidad muy baja en lugares donde el parámetro no es aplicable. Finalmente, se unen todos estos índices para obtener la clasificación de áreas con distintos grados de fragilidad ambiental. El índice IFA calculado definirá zonas que indican qué tan ambientalmente es frágil una zona. Así, una zona con IFA muy alto será ambientalmente muy frágil, mientras que una zona con un IFA muy bajo será ambientalmente menos frágil. Siguiendo esta lógica, los sitios más frágiles serán aquellos que presenten condiciones como susceptibilidad a deslizamientos o inundaciones, áreas protegidas, y también áreas frágiles desde el punto de vista antrópico, como zonas de alto valor paisajístico y patrimonial.
