114713CDP Cities 201659540City of Elgin, ILStrategyRenewable EnergyNotRepeatable8.1cCities-8.1c-NoRenewableEnergyTargetThe state of Illinois as adopted a clean energy portfolio that to the best of our knowledge, requires a certain amount of energy from renewable energies. The city of Elgin does not maintain an electric utility and therefore does not have direct control of its electricity supply sources for its residents. The community is served by the primary utility, Commonwealth Edison or the various alternative suppliers. In the past the city has entered into a community aggregation program that contracted with an alternative energy supplier that provided 100% green energy for residential and small business customers. However that contract has since expired and it was the decision of the council to renew with an option for residents to choose 100% green energy, but did not include green energy in the default program. This decision was borne out of a desire to offer residents the lowest cost electricity at the time.00
