138193CDP Cities 201760652Morogoro Municipal CouncilIntroductionIntroductionNotRepeatable0.1Cities-0.1-IntroductionMorogoro Municipality is the Regional Headquarters of Morogoro. It is one of the oldest towns in the history of Tanzania (by then Tanganyika ) in the 18 th Century. Arabs used Morogoro as stop over and route for slave caravans from the hinterland land to the coast before shiping them to the far East through the Indian Ocean. Morogoro Municipal is one of the six districts of the Morogoro Region, it covers 260 square kilometers (100sq m). It is bordered to the East and South by the Morogoro Rural District and to the North and West by Mvomero District. Morogoro is a hub city in the sense that it links the Southern highland regions, Western regions, countries like Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Zambia by road and railway. It has an airport which caters for small aircraft. Many rivers, mountains and very fertile valleys are found in Morogoro, making it one of the most fertile regions in Tanzania. This results in making it a big producer of agricultural and animal products. It is also home to the Uluguru mountains, a national park and rivers like the Ngerengere, Ruvu, etc which are tourist attractions. Morogoro is home to some industries and factories like the Dimon - tobacco, Abood Group of Companies - canvas & oil, Tanzania Tobacco Processors Ltd, Pride Meat, and some fruit processing plants. Morogoro Municipality is home to a number of educational institutions of higher learning - private & government-owned like Jordan University, SUA, Mzumbe, Muslim University, etc. There are Teachers' colleges too like Kigurunyembe and others. It has a number of Radio stations and one TV Station. The new Msamvu Bus Terminal will soon be operational; it will be one of the largest bus terminals in the country. The municipality has one of the most advanced land-development schemes in the country. Low, Middle and High density municipal plots have been surveyed and rights of ownership issued to citizens.1Cities-0.1-C2-DescriptionofCity2
