2562AlbertaCanadaNorth AmericaYes2016 and 201742529002016AgricultureOngoingPromote sustainable farming practices (e.g. low-till, waste reduction, etc.Comprehensive implementationA carbon levy is currently being charged on all fuels that emit greenhouse gas emissions when combusted at a rate of C$20 per tonne in 2017 (rising to C$30 per tonne in 2018). The rate is based on the amount of pollution released when it is combusted, not on the mass of fuel itself. These include transportation and heating fuels, such as diesel, gasoline, natural gas and propane. Certain fuels such as marked gas and diesel used on farms are exempt from the carbon levy. Alberta's carbon market provides opportunities for revenue from carbon offset sales of voluntary management improvements that reduce or remove greenhouse gas emissions such as conservation cropping, managing nitrogen fertilizer and feed efficiency in livestock.
2563ManitobaCanadaNorth AmericaYes2016 and 201712820432014AgricultureOngoingPromote sustainable farming practices (e.g. low-till, waste reduction, etc.Comprehensive implementationManitoba has introduced a variety of programs to help reduce GHG emissions from agricultural practices that also provide benefits to our food production system. Through the Manitoba Sustainable Agricultural Practices Program, an estimated 35,000 tonnes CO2e per year have been reduced over the three-year implementation of the program (2009-2012) In June 2015, funding for the Manure Management Financial Assistance Program (MMFAP) was renewed for another year to help ensure all eligible farmers have an opportunity to make improvements that will benefit their operations and the environment.

2565QueenslandAustraliaAsia PacificYes201748087712015FinanceOngoingIssue green bondsComprehensive implementationIn March 2017, the Queensland Treasury Corporation (QTC) issued an inaugural AUD750 million 7 year Green Bond with a coupon of 3.00 per cent. This was the largest and longest tenor AUD green bond issuance from an Australian issuer to date. QTC Green Bonds are guaranteed by the Queensland State Government, issued under the AUD Bond Program with 144A capability and certified by the Climate Bonds Initiative. Projects and assets include: Gold Coast Light Rail stage 1 and 2, Moreton Bay Rail Link, New Generation Rolling Stock, Various cycleways and Sunshine Coast Solar Farm. Public housing tenants face multiple barriers to accessing solar due to high upfront costs and short-term tenancies. From mid-2017, a first-of-its kind trial will be conducted to overcome these barriers and deliver electricity savings to some of the community's most vulnerable electricity customers. The solar for public housing trial will deliver up to 6 megawatts of solar, on up to 4,000 government-owned, detached houses.

The strategy articulates the biological and social dimension to generate actions to increase preservation of the biodiversity and the cultural and traditional heritage of the region, considering six mayor thematic axes: Knowledge, Education and environmental culture; Conservation and restoration of ecosystems; Sustainable use of natural resources; Environmental threats and pressures; and Governance. Yucatan has a total of eleven Natural Protected Areas administrated by the State government, with a combine surface of 127,272.89 Ha. In order to increase the number of protected areas, in 2011 the Biocultural Reserve of the Puuc Region was created by official decree, with a conservation surface of 135,848 Ha. This area is currently of mayor relevance, due the implementation of the Initiative of Reduction of Emissions (IRE) of the REDD+ Strategy. Additionally in 2013, in order to protect the water resources of the State, the Geo-hydrological Reserve of the Ring of Cenotes, was stablished with a surface of 219, 207 Ha, located in one of the mayor zones of recharge of the Yucatan aquifer.
2578QueenslandAustraliaAsia PacificYes201748087712015TransportOngoingPrivate Transport: Switch to electric/hybrid vehicles in cars/taxis/government fleetsComprehensive implementationIn July 2017, the Queensland Government launched the Queensland Electric Super Highway – the world's longest in one State. The super highway will be a series of fast-charging electric vehicle stations which will be rolled out at locations right up the Queensland coast from the Gold Coast to Cairns to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles in Queensland. The Queensland Government also encourages use of electric vehicle in government fleets

2584AlbertaCanadaNorth AmericaYes2016 and 201742529002016TransportOngoingMass Transit: Improve bus services (e.g. increase routes, improve stops, reduce fares, etc.)Comprehensive implementationThe Green Transit Incentive Program (GreenTRIP) was launched in 2010 as a one-time C$2 billion commitment, providing capital funding to support new and expanded public transit throughout Alberta. It helps provide Albertans with a wider range of sustainable public transit alternatives for local, regional and inter-municipal travel, making public transit more accessible. It also helps reduce traffic congestions by reducing reliance on private, single-occupant vehicles on Alberta roads and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. GreenTRIP criteria were updated in July 2016 to align with federal Public Transportation Infrastructure Fund (PTIF) program in order to allow municipalities to maximize support from both grant programs. Projects include: Low floor buses (Banff-Regional Transit), Electric buses (St.Albert), Double-decker buses (Strathcona County), Solar Energy Storage for electric use charging (Grande Prairie).

A nutrient management program is being developed to demonstrate best practices to reduce fertilizer use and GHG emissions, and is expected to lead to a nearly 100,000 tonne reduction of annual GHG emissions. The Climate Leadership Plan includes an action for agriculture to expand this nutrient management program.
