512350Cities 2019201950558City of London, ONCanadaNorth AmericaWater SecurityWater Supply14.3bPlease explain why you do not consider your city to be exposed to any substantive water-related risk.2Explanation1Please explainWe have reduced our exposure to risk by building a Regional Water System that provides drinking water to 14 municipalities including London. That system draws water from 2 Great Lake sources; Lake Erie and Lake Huron. In addition, London has maintained 2 back-up well fields in the case of emergency. Climate change is expected to have adverse effects on the Great Lakes watershed, in the form of decreased lake levels. Those decreased water level are not expected to impact water quantity, however may impact water quality, especially for the intake to the shallower Lake Erie. What is of concern however, that would pose a significant risk to the safety of our water supply is the possibility of diverting water from the Great Lakes to areas outside of the watershed especially to the US Southwest.24/06/2020 05:30:36
