The aim of such conferences is to create greener, more innovative solutions through dialogue between the city and key suppliers, actors and stakeholders from the onset of large projects. For example, Oslo hosted one such conference in November 2018 for the major extension project for Oslo’s subway system (Fornebubanen).In the project Zero Emission Digger (ZED) initiated by the City of Oslo, environmental organizations, research facilities, national directorates and the business sector are collaborating to rebuild a 30 ton digger to electric powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. Partnering businesses include the construction machinery suppliers Nasta and construction company Skanska. The project is still ongoing. The project one of the pilots in Oslo’s initiative for fossil- and emission free building and construction sites.In collaboration with three other municipalities, Oslo launched the initiative FutureBuilt in 2010, with a goal of showcasing innovative climate solutions in the building industry towards 2020. In 2018, the project reached its goal of 50 pilot buildings completed, ranging from antique buildings refurbished to achieve maximum possible insulation, to schools with building-integrated photovoltaics to achieve near zero net energy consumption.
