A expertise acumulada com os 12 anos do projeto permitiu avançar das ações de adequação ambiental das propriedades rurais para a implantação de um Sistema Municipal de Unidades de Conservação - SMUC, mantendo o PSA como instrumento econômico para atingir o objetivo. O Decreto Municipal nº 2.887/2015 estabelece as áreas de Conservação Ambiental como prioritárias para criação das unidades de conservação (UC), correspondente a 8.125 hectares, 33% da área do município de Extrema.
