Scope 3 emissions were not considered for this report. CH4 and N2O were converted to CO2 equivalent (CO2e), then multiplied by global warming potential (GWP) units developed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). GWPs were taken from the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (2013), and the 100-year GWP units were used in the calculations of CO2e. The total units of CO2e then represent the sum total of the global warming potential of calculated GHG emissions. Electricity generation emissions factors were provided by local utilities along with the EPA's Emissions & Generation Resource Integrated Database (eGRID). Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), and other GHG emissions were not calculated for this report. Municipal operations GHG totals include emissions from all City of Iowa City government activiities.
