Essa é uma iniciativa que une investimentos em responsabilidade ambiental com segurança no trânsito. Com o projeto, Belo Horizonte foi contemplada com o que há de mais moderno em termos de iluminação e o que é mais utilizado por diversos países na sinalização semafórica. Além disso, é a primeira capital do país com frota acima de 1,3 milhão de veículos a contar com todos os seus semáforos utilizando tecnologia LED e a cidade da América Latina com a maior quantidade instalada desse sistema. A substituição dos semáforos convencionais por semáforos a LED representa uma redução de 87% no consumo atual de energia para cada lâmpada substituída, além de diminuição do número de lâmpadas trocadas, já que a vida útil dos LEDs é estimada em 7 anos, de 25 a 30 vezes maior que das lâmpadas convencionais. Outra vantagem é que, por emitir menos calor e, por isso, acarretar menor dano às lentes dos grupos focais, o LED reduz a necessidade de manutenção do mobiliário semafórico. O projeto é um exemplo da responsabilidade ambiental, em virtude da eliminação do descarte médio anual de dezoito mil lâmpadas queimadas no meio ambiente e redução da emissão de gases de efeito estufa (GEE) produzidos pelos veículos responsáveis pela troca das lâmpadas queimadas.24/06/2020 05:28:18

After collection, the data was processed using an open-source software package developed at Portland State University to create a detailed map showing Richmond’s urban heat island. The map showed differences of up to 16°F across Richmond’s neighborhoods during the hottest part of the day. The project was the first to measure and map Richmond’s urban heat island. Project partners created a series of detailed maps showing Richmond’s urban heat island. The maps and heat island data are publicly available. Project partners have shared the maps and details of the project via community meetings, social media, and publications.
