| 529600 | CDP Cities 2018 | 2018 | 32480 | City of Adelaide | Australia | Southeast Asia and Oceania | Opportunities | Opportunities | 5.0a | Please indicate the opportunities and describe how the city is positioning itself to take advantage of them. | 2 | Describe how the city is maximizing this opportunity | 12 | The City of Adelaide worked with Siemens and their City Performance Tool (CyPT) to identify technologies from the transport, building and energy sectors that will mitigate GHG emissions, improve air quality and add new jobs to the local economy. The Siemens City Performance Tool revealed the following: - The City of Adelaide can reduce carbon emissions by as much as 20% on a high implementation of wind and solar power generation with a total capital investment of AUD300 million over the next 10 years; with approximately 2000 FTE jobs created through installation, operations and maintenance related employment. - The implementation of five building technologies including glazing, efficient lighting technology, building performance optimisation, room automation and building remote monitoring; at a cost of AUD37 million per year, can lead to a 15% reduction in GHG emissions in the building sector (5% reduction in city GHG emissions) and create approximately 1770 FTE jobs. - A transport scenario of low public transport and approximately 60% alternative cars (hybrid electric, electric, or pug-in hybrid electric) could reduce GHG emissions in the transport sector by 47% (31% reduction in city GHG emissions) with a capital investment of AUD1.4 billion in public transit and charging infrastructure for alternative vehicles. This would result in approximately 5,600 FTE jobs over a 10-year period. The City of Adelaide 2016-2020 Strategic Plan states that the City will support development of the clean technology sector through a range of programs, services, initiatives and data, including supporting start up and growth of new businesses and working with universities to assist with commercialising research and intellectual property for clean-tech applications. The City of Adelaide is positioning itself to take advantage of these (and other) opportunities through actions listed in the Carbon Neutral Adelaide Action Plan (2016-2021). These include actions to increase investment in large scale renewables across the state; actions to increase the uptake of renewable energy and battery storage within the City boundaries; actions to encourage energy efficient commercial buildings and support the uptake of efficiency technologies; and actions to reduce transportation emissions. | 24/06/2020 05:28:18 |
