The city completes a contribution analysis each year that helps analyze the primary reasons for fluctuations in emissions from year to year. From 2017 to 2018 the primary change was in the electric fuel blend of Denton Municipal Electric. As part of the city initiative to go 100% renewable by 2020 a large increase in wind energy was achieved in 2018. From 2017 to 2018 electricity from coal fire power plants decreased 64% while electricity from wind energy increased 52%. In addition the City of Denton constructed a natural gas electric power plant that also allowed the decrease in coal derived electricity purchases, and a subsequent decrease in emissions. This puts the renewable grid energy of DME at approximately 52%.24/06/2020 05:30:36
