Massachusetts is updating its Climate Action Plan and has established the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) program for municipalities to follow suit. New Bedford recently completed its initial MVP planning process and has received a state grant to complete a Community Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan. We envision tghis document to constitute a working prioritization tool to plan infrastructure projects and to combine them when appropriate to maximize funding opportunities. The state has already committed a substantial amout of infrastructure funding toward resilience initiatives and the City has completed sewer pump station floodproofing and upgrades, and is in the process of permitting a beach nourishment project to protect the abutting seawall and primary sewer main.
