Conductivity testing, which was completed in 2014, indicates that this site has ideal subsurface conditions for ground source heating and cooling. The estimated 120 tonnes of annual GHG emissions reduced through this project are the result of reducing natural gas consumption by switching to electric ground-source heat pumps for space heating and cooling. Natural gas consumption is reduced by 75%, and total GHG emissions are reduced by 71%. The increase in electricity consumption due to thus use of ground-source heat pumps offsets approximately 6% of the emissions reductions from reduced natural gas consumption. In addition, reducing emissions reduces costs associated with carbon production.A 60-hole borefield coupled to a high-efficiency heat pump will provide heating and cooling to the new SLMN building. As a result, the building is expected to consume 75% less natural gas and 51% less energy overall.24/06/2020 05:28:18
