The city reaches 108 meters maximum altitude . The municipality has 552.54 Km2, spread over 18 parishes. In 2011, the total county population amounted to 61,752 inhabitants, of which 29,578 in the city of Santarém. Santarém has a priveleged location which gives the city a unique character, because is a point for different national and international transport systems and also a distribution centre for products and services. The main economic activities are services and the primary sector but we have an important stone exploration and livestock activity. Santarém is the lively capital of the Lezíria do Tejo sub-region (Lisboa e Vale do Tejo region). This district is formed by vast, green plains that stretch to the horizon, often flooded by the Tejo river . While horse and bull breeding are amongst some of the region’s most proud traditions. Santarém is particularly famous for the Festival Portuguese Food, National Agricultural Fair and the bullfights. Santarém has several notable historic monuments, known as “Gothic Capital”. The region where it belongs it is considered a transition zone between the climate of maritime influence, with a slight interference from the Atlantic Ocean, and continental climate influenced by their specific characteristics associated to the higher zones. The rainy season occurs mainly from October to March. In 2012 the average annual temperature was 15.8 ° C. The minimum average temperature was 9.6 ° C and the average maximum temperature of 22.1 ° C. In the warmest month, August, the average temperature was 23.4 ° C. The minimum average temperature was 16.4 ° C and the maximum average temperature of 30,5ºC. In the coldest month February average temperature was 9.3 ° C. The minimum average temperature was 2.3 ° C and the maximum average temperature of 15,2ºC. | 24/06/2020 05:30:36 | |||
