Although the past couple of years have not produced multiple substantial accumulations, the winter of '15-16 produced accumulations with a significant additive affect. Each storm brings the risk of power outage and structural damage due to snow weight on wires and rooftops. These outages can last for days, causing residents to rely on unconventional and dangerous methods of heating including gas ovens, camping equipment, and improperly-maintained fireplaces. During snow events emergency transportation is at risk due to the presence of deep snow as well as limited street width. Multiple accumulation events result in a shortage in location for snow storage and every new event often reduces the navigability of throughways.24/06/2020 05:28:18

The Climate Action Plan is divided in two parts: (a) the mitigation plan and (b) the adaptation plan. The mitigation plan focuses on the reduction of GHG emissions by 40% until 2030 in comparison to 2014 levels. According to this plan, actions on energy savings and thus GHG emissions reduction are put forward on buildings in the municipal, commercial and residential sector, transport and industry. Actions on the process of solid waste are also put forward, so as to reduce GHG emissions from landfills. The adaptation plan sets actions on the city’s adaptation to climate change at technical and social level, focusing mainly on heatwaves.
