Increased precipitation due to climate change may exacerbate this problem. In February 2018, Louisville experienced its largest flooding since 1997. In addition to having harmful effects on the city's infrastructure, floodwater can pose a variety of serious health risks. Chemicals and other hazardous substances that end up in the water may eventually contaminate waterbodies if left untreated.
