The city’s current adaptation strategies fully address the urban green environment vulnerabilities to climate change, such as adaptation actions to use water resistant materials, planting salt tolerant species, prioritizing maintenance and repair of trails that serve people with limited mobility and protecting or creating high tide refugia within the existing tidal marshes. The city is also developing a multi-objective shoreline improvement plans leading to both recreation and habitat protection. Adaptation measures are based on detailed urban forest mapping via the city’s Urban Forest Map https://urbanforestmap.org/ and the calculated environmental benefits the trees provide, such as how many gallons of stormwater they filter, how many pounds of air pollutants they capture, how many kilowatt-hours of energy they conserve, and how many tons of carbon dioxide they remove from the atmosphere.
