The program covers the upfront cost of residential installations of solar PV, solar hot water or solar hot air systems and allows homeowners to repay the costs through a 10-year, fixed rate loan that is applied to the property through a local improvement charge, i.e., property-assessed clean energy. SolarCity Halifax requires that homeowners work directly with qualified solar contractors to install their system, and therefore aims to grow the solar industry in the municipality and the province. The Province of Nova Scotia announced a new solar energy rebate program in June 2018 that will provide homeowners with a rebate of $1/W for installed solar PV systems up to a maximum of 10 kW. This rebate will help to incentivize homeowners to install solar PV systems by reducing the upfront costs and decreasing the length of the payback period. HRM staff are also looking into opportunities to deploy solar PV technologies on some municipal buildings in an effort to decrease our corporate reliance on grid-supplied electricity and reduce corporate GHG emissions.24/06/2020 05:30:36
