In newest Master Plan (2016) there is a strong emphasis in densification of city structure and support for rail-based transportation system. Substantial share of new city structure will be located to areas of current inner city highway corridors, that on the longer run will be transformed into city boulevards. There is a priorisation on public transport, walking and cycling in Master Plan. 1/3 of new construction will be new areas (industrial and Malmi airport), 1/3 city boulevards and 1/3 complementary construction to minimize the loss of green areas. By doing this city of Helsinki can combine both climate smart urban fabric and substantial population growth that is estimated to take place during coming decades.In Helsinki's Climate Mitigation action plan adopted in December 2018 the urban planning (master planning, detailed planning and plot stipulation) has an important role in emission reduction planning and there are various measures in this field to reduce emissions in total (effect especially on building sector and transportation).Helsinki's new city strategy 2017-2021 aims for carbon neutrality by 2035 and 60 % reduction of GHG*s by 2030. To Implement this a climate mitigation action plan was prepared in 2018. The action plan set a 82% reduction goal for buildings and 70% target for transport by 2035. There are a total of 147 measures to reach the carbon neutrality and the mitigation potential and costs have been estimated in the plan.24/06/2020 05:30:36
