Below are some examples in which Carmel Utilities engages the community about important sustainable efforts that can take place in their homes and businesses:Public Safety Day: Held in September of each year, Carmel Utilities has information tents highlighting many different aspects of our operations and provides water conservation, recycling and other types of information. Citizen’s Utility Academy: Twice a year Carmel Utilities holds a Citizen’s Utility Academy were residents can learn about all aspects of Carmel Utilities. Attendees get a behind the scenes look at the Utilities operations. The class is held one morning a week for six weeks. Electronics Recycling & Bulk item/Pharmaceutical Disposal Event: Twice a year Carmel Utilities sponsored and help staff an electronics recycling and bulk item event in cooperation with the Crimestopper’s Shred-It and medication-drop event. Thousands of residents drop off tons of electronics to be recycled. Pharmaceuticals were also collected and all available RX disposal containers were filled by the collecting officer. CarmelFest: July 3 & 4, each year. Carmel Utilities has information in the City tent at CarmelFest. Hundreds of the “Groundwater Basic”;” Your sidewalks won’t grow if you water it”; and “Where can I take my household hazardous waste?” brochures are handed out. Holiday Lights Recycling: Each Holiday season Carmel Utilities partners with Carmel Clay Schools, Ace Hardware and Technology Recyclers promote and hold a holiday light recycling drive. Residents are encouraged to convert to LED lighting and to dispose of their old holiday lights responsibly.
