The electric bicycles equipped with advanced suspension systems and Shimano gear transmissions were unveiled in January 2019. Generally, all the electric bicycles were equipped with GPS tracking systems with action cameras attached to the helmets. This makes it easy for the council to track the location of the riders and the action cameras allow the riders to record whatever happens during their journey. Our electricbicycles provide riders easy manoeuvring and with pedal assist features, they can travel at a speed of up to 25 km per hour. By using these bicycles with power assists, the enforcement riders are able to choose if they prefer 20%, 40% or even 80% of assist according to their preferences. The 10 electric bicycles which cost a total of about RM 54,000 would be added to the existing 20 conventional bicycles currently in use by the council’s cycling patrol unit. For the time being, these bicycles will be used to carry out traffic enforcement around George Town. If the council is able to, we hope to add more electrical bicycle units and expand patrolling to more areas in George Townin the future. The procurement of these electric bicycles is amove which is in line with making Penang a smart and green city and also to encourage cycling lifestyles in the state.24/06/2020 05:30:36
