A number of city departments, local administrations and partner organizations have worked together on different committees to develop the “Sustainable Montréal 2016-2020” Plan. The Plan reflects this unique approach, which promotes concerted community action and an increase in sustainability efforts and initiatives. It’s the result of a collaborative process with more than 230 partner organizations and representatives from central municipal departments and local municipal administrations. In order to continue its efforts to create a setting that is a great place to live for all its citizens, ten aspirational goals have been formulated. The goals were defined after an exhaustive review of the literature and are also the result of discussions with the numerous stakeholders involved in the process. The goals define the qualities of a sustainable city (Nourishing, Healthy and active; Ecomobile; Eco-friendly and prosperous; Low-carbon; Smart and collaborative; Resource efficient; Resilient; Inclusive; Creative; and Green and blue) and constitute a vision which forms the basis of the Plan. The approach was built around 3 challenges 1.LOW-CARBON Reduce GHG by 80% by 2050 2.EQUITABLE Improve access to services and facilities, fight inequality and promote inclusiveness 3.EXEMPLARY Adopt exemplary sustainability practices, lead the way and mobilize Given the progress made in including sustainability in various activity sectors, the plan has established 4 priorities to concentrate its activities over the next years. 1.Reduce GHG emissions and dependence on fossil fuels 2.Add vegetation, increase biodiversity and ensure the continuity of resources 3.Ensure access to sustainable, human-scale and healthy neighbourhoods 4.Make the transition toward a green, circular and responsible economy The city commits to monitoring and compiling its efforts, and those of its partners. An organization must commit to contribute to the fulfillment of the Plan to become a partner. The partner must implement projects that are concrete, measurable and with an impact on quality of life. They share with the municipal administration the responsibility to hit The Plan aims for collaboration with 500 Montréal organizations. | 24/06/2020 05:30:36 | |||
