L.A.'s GND is guided by four key principles:- A commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement and to act urgently with a scientifically-driven strategy for achieving a zero carbon grid; zero carbon transportation; zero carbon buildings; zero waste; and zero wasted water.- A responsibility to deliver environmental justice and equity through an inclusive economy, producing results at the community level – guided by communities themselves.- A duty to ensure that every Angeleno has the ability to join the green economy by creating pipelines to good paying, green jobs and a just transition in a changing work environment.- A resolve to demonstrate the art of the possible and lead the way, walking the walk and using the City’s resources – our people and our budget – to drive change.L.A.’s GND accelerates the city’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets, including 50% below 1990 levels by 2025, surpassing the recommendations of the 2018 U.N. Special Report on Global Warming. Taken together, by 2050, the actions in L.A.’s GND will:- Prevent 1,650 premature deaths and 660 respiratory and cardiovascular hospital admissions each year- Save $16 billion from prevented deaths and hospital admissions each year- Create 400,000 total green jobsEmissions must decline everywhere – as soon as possible. The pace may vary depending on the opportunities and characteristics of each sector, but at the end of the day, L.A.’s GND puts our city on the road to a zero carbon future across the board:- Zero carbon grid – Achieving 100% Renewable Energy by 2045- Zero carbon buildings – Achieving 100% net zero carbon new buildings by 2030 and all buildings by 2050- Zero carbon on-road transportation – Achieving 100% zero emission vehicles in the city by 2050 - Zero waste – Achieving a 100% landfill diversion rate by 2050 - Zero wasted water – Recycling 100% of our wastewater by 2035 Access the GND at: http://plan.lamayor.org/sites/default/files/pLAn_2019_final.pdf | 24/06/2020 05:30:36 | |||
