Limita al norte con la comuna de Renca (separada por el río Mapocho), al sur y al oeste con la comuna de Pudahuel, al oriente con Quinta Normal y al sur con la comuna de Lo Prado. Los orígenes de la Comuna se caracterizan por una precaria realidad habitacional, principalmente con casas construidas de materiales de desecho y carentes de servicios básicos que una familia necesitaba para vivir (Quezada y cols, 2014). Durante la década del 50 comenzó una reconfiguración territorial de todo Santiago con el surgimiento de diversas poblaciones, por tomas de terrenos, erradicaciones, operaciones sitio o compras de grandes terrenos por parte de algunas cooperativas de trabajadores. Estas formas de asentamiento fueron componiendo la actual comuna de Cerro Navia. Por ejemplo, la creación por parte del Estado de grandes poblaciones como la Población El Montijo, y la organización de los propios habitantes de los campamentos, que realizan tomas de terreno, como es el caso de las poblaciones Violeta Parra y Herminda de la Victoria. Por otro lado, en la comuna existen varias poblaciones que surgieron gracias al ahorro cooperativo de trabajadores de algunas empresas lo que les permitió adquirir terrenos y construir sus casas, como fue el caso de Fanaloza, también encontramos poblaciones que fueron producto de los desplazamientos obligados de pobladores desde otras comunas del sector oriente, perpetrados por la dictadura cívico-militar (Quezada y cols, 2014).La realidad de Cerro Navia en la década siguiente a su creación se caracterizó por un continuo crecimiento de la población, sin tener la infraestructura ni los servicios adecuados. Además, cargaba con la estigmatización de ser una comuna de escasos recursos.24/06/2020 05:30:36
