A través de diferentes modalidades de servicios se promueve esta separación como técnica importante que contrarresta impactos negativos sobre el ambiente, favoreciendo su aprovechamiento como recurso y contribuyendo a la sustentabilidad y a la reducción de emisiones de los gases de efecto invernadero.Para ello, la municipalidad prevé avanzar en la separación en origen y la recolección diferenciada de residuos separados en tres fracciones: orgánicos, reciclables y restos, en distintos ámbitos empresariales. Estas prácticas se implementan por medio de las Estrategias para la Separación en Origen de la Fracción Orgánica de Residuos Sólidos Urbanos (FORSU), bajo las siguientes intervenciones: • Barrios Verdes • Grandes Generadores • Compostaje domiciliario e institucional• Hojas de barrido de higiene urbana• Promoción de la biodigestión a escala domiciliaria e institucionalSe apunta a profundizar estas actuaciones y a avanzar hacia la optimización del tratamiento de la fracción orgánica. Se trata de generar un producto final de compostaje de una mayor calidad, para lo cual es necesario partir de un sustrato orgánico más puro y en mejores condiciones.Cabe destacar que la modalidad de Barrios Verdes se ha ido incorporando para algunos sectores urbanos y para una parte de los Grandes Generadores de residuos compatibles con domiciliarios (comerciales e industriales). En lo que respecta al compostaje domiciliario, se trata de avanzar en esta práctica -en el tratamiento in situ-, lo cual contiene un elemento de compromiso ciudadano significativo en su implementación. Otro de los tratamientos de los residuos orgánicos a realizar es mediante la biodigestión.
