Over 500 interested residents attended information sessions led by the Solar Indiana Renewable Energy Network in 2017 and 2018. To date, 184 homeowners have installed over 1.2 MW of solar capacity through the program. You can view a map of all known solar installations in Monroe County and beyond on SIREN’s website at https://www.sirensolar.org/solar-map/. The City has also installed solar PV systems at 30 locations, estimated to provide 2.8 MW of solar capacity for municipal operations. Monroe County Energy Challenge:The Monroe County Energy Challenge (MCEC) was created in 2014 as a participant in a nation-wide community energy reduction competition. The nation-wide challenge is over, but we're as committed as ever to helping families, businesses, schools, institutions, and others in our community reduce their energy usage and costs and to become more energy literate. https://www.mocoenergychallenge.org/Duke Energy: Duke Energy's GoGreen Indiana program gives you the ability to support the development of green power sources throughout the state and the region. The GoGreen program is a way to match your homes' electricity use with green, renewable energy and can be done through the purchase of “blocks” of green power. Customers can purchase a minimum of two 100-kilowatt-hour (kWh) blocks of green power for just $1.80 a month, reducing almost 400 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per month into the atmosphere. At $9 per month it would be enough renewable energy to match the consumption of the average home. The money from this program is used to purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) and to help cover the program's marketing and administration expense. Duke Energy will make purchases from environmentally friendly sources located within the service area as they become available.
