En 1960, Cocody réalise ses premières constructions. Ce sont les Cent-soixante (160) logements dans le souci de loger tous les agents de l’Etat. 29 ans plus tard, Cocody voit la naissance du nouveau quartier appelé Angré. La Commune de Cocody est crée par la loi n°78-07 du 09 janvier 1978, portant création des communes de plein exercice en Côte d’Ivoire et est délimitée par le décret n°80-1184 du 18 octobre 1980, fixant le ressort territorial des communes de la ville d’Abidjan, modifié par le décret n°95-530 du 14 juillet 1995 fixant le ressort territorial des communes d’Abobo et de Cocody. Le 17 Août 1980, le premier Maire de Cocody est élu par les Conseillers municipaux. Dès lors, Trois (3) villages faisant autrefois partie de la sous-préfecture de Bingerville se rattachent à la Commune. Ce sont : Anono, M’pouto, et Akouédo. Monsieur Arsène Usher ASSOUAN fut le premier Maire de la Commune de Cocody. il a eu deux mandats de 1980 à 1990. De 1990 à 2000, ce fut Monsieur MEL Eg Théodore à son actif, deux mandats. De 2000 à 2010, ce fut Monsieur GOMONT DIAGOU Jean-Baptiste. L’actuel Maire est Monsieur N’GOAN AKA Mathias, en poste depuis 2013.Situé à l’Est d’Abidjan, et occupant 20,8 % de la superficie totale des treize (13) Communes du District d’Abidjan, Cocody s’étend sur une superficie de 132 km² et est limitée : – Au nord par la Commune d’Abobo – Au sud par la lagune Ebrié – A l’est par la Commune de Bingerville – A l’ouest par les Communes d’Adjamé et du Plateau. La Commune de Cocody est divisée en plusieurs secteurs que sont : Riviera I, II, III, Angré, les II plateaux etc. Et les villages suivants : – Cocody village – Blockauss – M’badon – M’pouto – Anono – Akouédo – Djorogobité I et II – Adjamé Extension – Bahouakoi – Koffakoi. Le relief de Cocody est généralement bas. Cependant, on note une zone de forte pente au nord de la Commune. Elle a une Population de 800.000 habitants, une Surface (en km²) de 132km2 et une Densité de 6061 hab. /km2, bien que faisant partie du District d'Abidjan . Cocody est une commune principalement résidentielle et s’illustre par ses grandes villas et ses riches demeures.
