One example is that the department is investigating new funding sources to help maintain trails and parks, as well as considering ways of maximizing the utility of Switchyard Park to keep up with unforeseen needs and recreation use trends. They also see an opportunity for implementing a life cycle approach to park management so the department can better anticipate repairs and renovations. Additionally, increased demand for trails and planned expansion are demonstrating opportunities to pursue partnerships with organizations that want to be located near a trail. With regards to event planning, the department is aiming to improve location diversity for events to eliminate potential access barriers. They have also identified the environmental benefit of using sustainable materials during trail construction. Lastly, the department has set a goal of being more responsive to development and redevelopment opportunities that enhance the park system, as well as setting a goal to seek funding to hire more full time staff to expand their current work.
