The Province of Ontario’s Energy & Water Reporting and Benchmarking (EWRB) regulation is designed to help building owners and managers improve their building’s energy and water efficiency.Through this regulation, some privately owned buildings (greater than 50,000 square feet) will be required to report annual energy and water consumption and performance data.Full details on the regulation can be found on Ontario’s EWRB Guide. Please see: https://www.ontario.ca/document/guide-energy-and-water-reportingThe second mandatory reporting deadline is July 1, 2019, and applies to buildings 100,000 square feet in size and larger. Step by Step instructions on reporting can be found below.EWRB uses energy performance benchmarks to drive energy savings among building owners most in need of support, and further motivate industry leaders in energy efficiency.In 2018, the Province of Ontario’s Energy & Water Reporting and Benchmarking (EWRB) regulation only required privately owned buildings within the City of Toronto which are over 250,000 square feet in size to self-report this metric. More information will become available over the coming years as the regulation expands to include more building types and sizes. The City of Toronto will further analyze and report on this data as it becomes available.
