The largest reductions since 2008 (by percent reduced) were from consumption-based and building and facilities emissions, which both have reduced by 41 percent, followed by emissions from wastewater and water treatment, which were reduced by 30 percent. The large decreases in emissions from the building and facilities and street light sectors have been largely driven by energy efficiency and renewable energy. Though in recent years consumption has increased with the addition of new facilities, the continued improvement of the electricity grid due to the Colorado Renewable Energy Standard6 and the state’s Clean Air Clean Jobs Act has continued a reduction in emissions by offsetting the consumption increase.Emissions over the year have been driven by the following sources: electricity, natural gas, gasoline, and consumption-based items.
