This accord commited The City to voluntary corporate target of an 80% reduction by 2050 over 2005 levels; a commitment to pursue parallel GHG reduction strategies with their communities; and the creation of a plan to reduce GHG emissions and promote low-carbon living. In 2006, the City undertook a large-scale community engagement process, called imagineCALGARY, which also has a set of sustainability goals and targets. imagineCalgary calls for the reduction of community greenhouse gas emissions by 6% below 1990 levels by 2012, with the long-term target of reducing emissions to 50% below 1990 levels by 2036. (see http://www.imaginecalgary.ca/) As a result of this commitment, in June 2018, Calgary City Council approved the Calgary Climate Resilience Strategy with Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Plans, which replaced 2011 Calgary Community GHG Reduction Plan with the target of greenhouse gas emissions reduction by 80% by 2050. The plan reaffirms Calgary’s commitment to the community-wide GHG reduction targets, and identifies opportunities to make progress. (see https://www.calgary.ca/UEP/ESM/Pages/Energy-Savings/Climate-Change.aspxredirect=/climateprogram) Calgary's Municipal Development Plan and the Calgary Transportation Plan have a series of implementation metrics to guide more sustainable development in Calgary. (see http://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Pages/Municipal-Development-Plan/Municipal-Development-Plan-MDP.aspx and http://www.calgary.ca/Transportation/TP/Pages/Planning/Calgary-Transportation-Plan/Calgary-Transportation-Plan-(CTP).aspx). | 07/16/2021 01:47:15 | |||

It is known for its beautiful lakes, spectacular geothermal attractions, stunning scenery, and its warm and friendly people. Rotorua is renowned for its welcoming hospitality - often referred to as the traditional spirit of 'manaakitanga.' Located in the central North Island, Rotorua is well-connected to the rest of New Zealand and the world through a network of air, road and rail links. The city is less than 3 hours drive from Auckland (234 km), New Zealand's largest population centre with 1.5 million people, and 457 kms from the country’s capital, Wellington. Nearly a half of New Zealand’s population live within 300 kms of Rotorua making it an ideal location to live, an easy-to-get-to vacation destination, and an increasingly popular location for conventions, and major sports, cultural and entertainment events. Rotorua Lakes District and Bay of Plenty Region have plenty of quality activities to suit everyone from adventure, excitement, fun and entertainment, to just enjoying a relaxing lifestyle. Five State Highways - 5, 30, 33, 36 and 38 - converge in Rotorua. These highways are a vital part of New Zealand's road transport network and they form a link between the city and the rest of the country. Within easy driving distance of Rotorua are the university city of Hamilton, and the coastal city of Tauranga where New Zealand's largest export port is located, an important link in New Zealand's growing international trade. The Maori people of Te Arawa were the original occupants of Rotorua, settling around the coast, the lakes, forests and geothermal areas. European settlers established in Rotorua in the 1830s. Rotorua is a bicultural district with an increasingly multicultural population. Rotorua lies largely within the Bay of Plenty Region and partly within the Waikato Region. With an estimated population of 71,877 in 2018, Rotorua ranks 12th in size of New Zealand’s 67 districts. The district is centred around a thriving urban area on the southern shore of Lake Rotorua, and extends to include a substantial rural area as well as lakeside communities. The local environment encompasses 18 lakes, active geothermal areas, and considerable public open space.
