| 122407 | Cities 2020 | 2020 | 63762 | Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) | United States of America | North America | Energy | 8.0b | Please explain why you do not have a renewable energy or electricity target and any plans to introduce one in the future. | 2 | Comment | 1 | Please explain | Metropolitan Washington is a region that spans across the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. Each of these "states " already have set their own Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS): • District of Columbia: 100% by 2032• Maryland: 50% by 2030 and 100% by 2040• Virginia: 30% by 2030 and 100% by 2050In addition, several Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) member local jurisdictions have established renewable energy targets for their own government operations. COG does not have authority over local, state, or utility goals and actions; however, COG does advocate for and support implementation of these policies and programs. The Metropolitan Washington 2030 Climate and Energy Action Plan addresses the climate mitigation goal of reducing emissions 50% by 2030. The plan does not set any sub-goals or sector specific targets; however, the 2030 technical potential scenarios and mitigation actions do identify the level of implementation needed to meet the 2030 goal to reduce emissions 50% by 2030. The single most impactful action throughout the 2030 scenario is the implementation of state RPS. In addition, the region would need to deploy more than 200,000 additional solar systems in the next ten years to support meeting the 2030 goal. This is equivalent to 24 percent of single-family homes in the region installing solar photovoltaics on their roofs. The region will also need to have an additional 10 percent annual growth of green power purchases to meet the 2030 goal. | 07/16/2021 01:47:15 | |||
