125486Cities 20202020839673Municipalidad Distrital de Jesús MaríaPeruLatin AmericaClimate Hazards and VulnerabilityClimate Hazards2.1cHave you compiled information related to climate risk, vulnerabilities, and adaptive capacities into a baseline synthesis report?2Provide details on, and attach your baseline synthesis report1Baseline synthesis reportGlobal warming is an unequivocal fact closely related to the increase in the concentration of anthropogenic greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. In addition to the rise in average global temperatures, there have also been significant changes in daytime, nighttime and seasonal temperatures; the frequency, duration, and intensity of heatwaves, droughts and floods; wind and storm patterns; frost, snow and ice cover; and global sea levels. Today, Metropolitan Lima has a population of over 10.5 million. Lima is a very vulnerable city to Climate Change due to the meteorological conditions it experiences (mainly temperature and precipitation variations), and are intensified by the housing density, the high dependence on services and infrastructure, and the high presence of inadequate constructions, among other factors.According to the Second National Communication of the Ministry of the Environment, Metropolitan Lima registers increases in its maximum temperature that oscillate between 0.4°C and 0.8°C as well as 0.8°C and 1.6°C for its minimum temperature. As a consequence of these alterations, the city's climate behavior has changed. Among the most important effects of the increase in temperature are Increase in the average temperature Increase in the number and duration of heatwaves High-temperature fluctuations Changes in sea surface temperature Increased evaporation of water from the soil and increased plant transpiration (evapotranspiration)Increased risk of fire On the other hand, there are also alterations in rainfall patterns, among the main effects: General reduction of precipitation and, therefore, reduction of water availability.Reduction in water contributions to the rivers, that is to say, of the available water resources.Flooding caused by periods of intense rainfall Droughts Landslide and loss of slope structure (heavy rainfall) Reduction of water resources for human consumption Due to the location of the district of Jesús María in the metropolitan area, the main climatic dangers faced in a homogeneous way throughout the territory are the increase in number and duration of Heat Waves as well as Droughts. On the other hand, and to a lesser extent, there are localized areas where the district is exposed to landslides or droughts during periods of very heavy rain due to the instability of the soil and the precariousness of the construction materials, and finally to strong winds in an area where the track width would mean a channel to increase the intensity.PLAN LOCAL DE ACCIÓN CLIMÁTICA DE JESÚS MARÍA.pdf07/16/2021 01:47:15

Description

This data is collected through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System. When using this data, please cite both organisations using the following wording: ‘This data was collected in partnership by CDP and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability’.
This dataset contains the full responses of publicly disclosing cities in 2020. To view the complete cities 2020 questionnaire guidance, including all questions asked in 2020, visit https://www.cdp.net/en/guidance/guidance-for-cities. Please contact cities@cdp.net if you have any questions.
When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and 5 American regional councils, which are: Chicago Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; Denver Regional Council of Governments; Metropolitan Council, Twin Cities; Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and Mid-America Regional Council.
