The word "Iztapa" in the Nahual language means place where salt abounds. It has natural resources and an important history because it was one of the first ports in the country. In addition, a large number of wetlands, which, during the rainy season, serve as places of abundant fishing, both shrimp and variety of fish. Their mangroves are of great importance for the ecosystem of the place, since many species of fish grow and feed in the burrows of these aquatic plants. Its geographical coordinates Latitude North 13 ° 45 "55" and West Length 90 ° 42 "58", at a height of 2.10 m. The territorial limits are: to the north with Guanagazapa, to the south with the Pacific Ocean, to the east with the municipality of Taxisco, department of Santa Rosa and to the west municipality of San José and Masagua. Its territorial extension of 65.16 km2. On the Pacific CA-2 international road, the municipality is 130 km away from the capital city and 66 km away from the departmental capital, its climate is predominantly warm. As a historical fact, it was the main port on the southern coast of Guatemala. that, in 1852, the inhabitants of the municipality are engaged in artisanal fishing, agriculture, and livestock, predominantly the cultivation of sugar cane. The municipality stands out at the national level within its education policies implemented by the local government highlighting a strong investment for having an important school infrastructure of the first order. Because a high percentage of the population is young, it represents 84% of the population under 45 years of age. corresponding 50.35% to the female gender and 49.65% male gender. with a population density of 35 inhabitants per km2 (PDM source). The most common means of transport is the motorcycle and rowing boats or motor.Its patronal feast dedicated to San Rafael Arcángel is celebrated on October 24; As part of its tradition a religious procession is made making its journey in boats decorated for the occasion by the channel of Chiquimulilla.For this reason and others, Iztapa is an important tourist destination at a regional and international level. | 07/16/2021 01:47:15 | |||

When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and 5 American regional councils, which are: Chicago Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; Denver Regional Council of Governments; Metropolitan Council, Twin Cities; Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and Mid-America Regional Council.
