135451Cities 2020202043934City of PerthAustraliaSoutheast Asia and OceaniaWater SecurityWater Supply14.2aPlease identify the risks to your city’s water security as well as the timescale and level of risk.5Risk description3The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) has identified that groundwater resources used by the City of Perth are stressed and over over-extracted and that there has been a persistent decline in water quality (increasing salinity) and water levels. DWER are responsible for a groundwater extraction licencing system. City of Perth has identified that 70% of their irrigation water supply is sourced from groundwater, presenting a significant risk should the groundwater quality decline, groundwater allocations be reduced, or the bores/pumps fail. Should the availability of groundwater be compromised, the City would be unable to meet their irrigation requirements and the amenity of the parks and reserves would decline.07/16/2021 01:47:15
