| 135451 | Cities 2020 | 2020 | 43934 | City of Perth | Australia | Southeast Asia and Oceania | Water Security | Water Supply | 14.2a | Please identify the risks to your city’s water security as well as the timescale and level of risk. | 5 | Risk description | 3 | The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) has identified that groundwater resources used by the City of Perth are stressed and over over-extracted and that there has been a persistent decline in water quality (increasing salinity) and water levels. DWER are responsible for a groundwater extraction licencing system. City of Perth has identified that 70% of their irrigation water supply is sourced from groundwater, presenting a significant risk should the groundwater quality decline, groundwater allocations be reduced, or the bores/pumps fail. Should the availability of groundwater be compromised, the City would be unable to meet their irrigation requirements and the amenity of the parks and reserves would decline. | 07/16/2021 01:47:15 | |||
