138777Cities 20202020842160Balikesir Metropolitan MunicipalityTurkeyEuropeIntroduction0.1Please give a general description and introduction to your city including your city’s reporting boundary in the table below.2Description of city1Please completeBalıkesir is a province in northwestern Turkey with coastlines on both the Sea of Marmara and the Aegean. Its adjacent provinces are Çanakkale to the west, İzmir to the southwest, Manisa to the south, Kütahya to the southeast, and Bursa to the east. It is located between 39º40 'north latitudes and 26º28' east longitudes. The provincial borders are scattered within both the Marmara and Aegean Regions. The landforms of Balıkesir Province, which is not overly hilly, are mostly composed of undulating plains. Plateau plains covering more than half of the provincial area are fragmented by river valleys. The northern parts of the province whose altitude does not reach 2000m. are roughed by Karadağ. The southeast and southwestern parts of the province are more mountainous. he summit of Ulus Mountain, which is connected to Alaçam Mountains in the southeast, reaches 1769 meters. The Kaz Mountains in the southwest-northeast direction find a height of 1774 meters on the Karataş Hill on the provincial border. In Balıkesir province, besides the Mediterranean climate, the effects of Black Sea and Terrestrial climate are observed throughout the province. Summers are hot and dry on the Aegean coasts, warm and generally rainy in winters, and the Mediterranean climate is relatively cool in the Marmara shores due to the Black Sea climate. It tends to be continental as one goes from the coasts to the interior and winters are felt colder.Balıkesir is the seventeeth crowded city in Turkey. According to the data of 2019, its population is 1,228,620. The area of the province is 14.583 m². There are 82 people per km² in the province. The economy of the province is generally based on agriculture and animal husbandry. Due to the favorable land and climate structure, all kinds of agricultural products are grown in Balıkesir. Balikesir is an important province and among the leading provinces in Turkey for the agricultural point of view, especially olives, olive oil, milk and red/white meat. The wide spread of agriculture in Balıkesir has enabled the development of agriculture-based industries. Facilities producing flour, feed, olive oil, pomace and canned food are spread across the province. Apart from these, there are investments in industrial branches such as timber, cement, sugar, leather, leather, brick, tile, machinery and equipment, all kinds of tools required for agriculture are produced and marketed domestically and abroad.07/16/2021 01:47:15
