Para obter estas projeções das alterações climáticas é necessário recorrer a cenários climáticos e socioeconómicos que são usados para antecipar um conjunto de impactes futuros.A elaboração de projeções climáticas pressupõe a utilização de cenários de emissões de GEE como dados de entrada (inputs) nos modelos climáticos, designados por Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) (IPCC, 2013). Estes cenários representam possíveis evoluções socioeconómicas e respetivas emissões de GEE. Os dados simulados a partir dos modelos climáticos são geralmente representados recorrendo a grelhas com uma resolução espacial associada à capacidade de cada modelo em representar adequadamente os variados fenómenos atmosféricos e as massas terrestres e oceânicas.No caso dos modelos utilizados nesta estratégia esta representação foi de aproximadamente 2,5 km. A resposta às alterações climáticas envolve um processo iterativo de gestão do risco que inclui quer adaptação, quer mitigação e que tem em conta os prejuízos, os benefícios, a sustentabilidade e a atitude perante o risco das alterações climáticas.O concelho de Águeda regista altas temperaturas, baixa precipitação apresentando alguma vulnerabilidade a incêndios assim como a ocorrência de fenómenos de precipitação excessiva, que leva à ocorrência de fenómenos de cheias. Para além dos incêndios e das cheias, foram identificados outros impactes climáticos neste concelho tais como as temperaturas extremas e a escassez de água. Nesse sentido, o concelho pretende melhorar a sua resposta sendo uma das apostas, como já referenciado, a melhoria do ambiente urbano de modo a garantir a atratividade e sustentabilidade, nomeadamente, pela criação de áreas urbanas em que as pessoas possam viver confortavelmente, trabalhar e relaxar.A exposição do concelho aos fatores climáticos acentua o impacto em quase todos os setores designadamente, na agricultura, floresta, biodiversidade, energia, turismo, ordenamento do território, saúde, segurança de pessoas e bens, mas em particular na gestão dos impactos dos eventos mais severos com incidência na segurança de pessoas e bens e no turismo sendo expectáveis para o concelho as seguintes alterações climáticas:Diminuição da precipitação média anualAumento da temperatura média anual, em especial das máximasAumento dos fenómenos extremos em particular de precipitação intensa ou muito intensa em períodos de tempo curtos sendo, ainda, expectável a ocorrência de tempestades de inverno mais intensas, acompanhadas de chuva e vento com impactos mais gravosos quando em conjugação com eventos adversosForam considerados cenários que correspondem a 3 períodos temporais distintos (2011-2040; 2041-2070 e 2071-2100) segundo os cenários RCP 4,5 e 8,5; com foco nas variáveis térmicas e pluviométricas.
