Seattle’s Fresh Bucks program helps families and individuals stretch their food budget with Fresh Bucks Vouchers. Fresh Bucks Vouchers are for eligible and enrolled participants. Vouchers can be used like cash to buy fruits and vegetables at all participating Fresh Bucks retailers.Fresh Bucks can be used at over 20 participating retailers in Seattle including: farmers markets, farm stands, neighborhood grocers and all Seattle Safeway stores. Fresh Bucks is a solution that helps low-income residents afford healthy foods and diversifies the customer base of farmers markets.Since 2012, the Fresh Bucks program has served over 29,000 customers with over $2 million in economic impacts gained by our priority populations through the Fresh Bucks match. https://www.freshbuckseattle.org/our-story/The City also provides stipends and grant funding that supports fresh fruit and vegetable purchases from preschools, childcare programs, and K-12 schools. The Farm to Table program, for example, allows Seattle Preschool Program sites and childcre programs to purchase locally-sourced fresh fruits and vegetables. In 2018, 60 sites participated serving 3,000 students. That same year, the City provided funding for fresh fruits and vegetable snacks at 18 elementary schools serving 6800 students in the Seattle Public School district.
