Como resultado de este estudio, se determinó, que la diferencia de entrada y salida del recurso hídrico en el cantón, brinda un caudal de 128 l/s, para un caudal de extracción con un rendimiento sostenible tomando en cuenta el 60% de factor de seguridad que se queda en el sistema hidrogeológico. Se cuenta además con un programa de compra de terrenos en zonas consideradas de importancia hídrico, esto a través del cobro de un "canon" denominado factor hídrico.Es esta misma línea se han generado otros estudios tales como:1. Estudio sobre las áreas de protección de manantiales y nacientes del cantón de La Unión (2010)2. Informe de monitoreo de calidad de agua de los Ríos Tiribí, Chagüite, La Cruz y Chiquito del cantón de La Unión (2016)3. Análisis de calidad de agua superficial para los ríos (2018 - 2019), Tiribí, María Aguilar y Quebrada Quebradas4. Informe de monitoreo de calidad de agua de los Ríos Tiribí, Chagüite, La Cruz y Chiquito del cantón de La Unión5. Ajuste en el Factor Hídrico en el Acueducto Municipal de la Municipalidad de la Unión, Cartago.6. Estudio sobre las áreas de protección de manantiales y nacientes del cantón de La Unión.7. Estudio Hidrogeológico de la Zona Protectora Cerros de la Carpintera, Cartago8. Análisis Integrado de la calidad del agua, para la cuenca del río María Aguilar9.
