The collaboration with the Academy and research centres is permanent. These activities generate subsidies to the knowledge of the physical risks that affect Rio de Janeiro City. The largest grant now available is Rio Operation Centre (COR), which includes about 30 agencies (municipal, state, and utilities) in monitoring and optimizing the city functions on a daily basis. The meteorological data required for weather events anticipation are received by weather radar with a range of 250 km located in Sumaré, and processed by the system forecast Weather High Resolution (PMAR), developed by IBM. The Climate Vulnerability Report - Vulnerabilidades das Megacidades Brasileiras às Mudanças Climáticas: Região Metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro (INPE, 2011), which addresses the impacts on the physical environment and the vulnerabilities of natural systems and socio-economic vulnerabilities of the city is key to a perspective view of the risks that hang over the city. The interpretation of the contents of the Inventory - Inventário e Cenário de Emissões dos Gases do Efeito Estufa da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro (COPPE / SMAC, 2013), associated with information and training opportunities and qualification arising from institutional linkages established with the Academy, Research Centres, Institutions public and private, allow to debug the technical findings. Several other sources can be consulted, such as: Seminary Rio: Próximos 100 Anos Anals (IPP, 2008); articles from the scientific community in the following areas: physical vulnerabilities of the coast; liable city areas to flooding by rising sea level; extreme weather events and microclimate; ecosystem of the Atlantic forest on the hillsides; mangroves and lagoon systems; infrastructure for urban drainage; water supply and sanitation systems; public health and social risk.07/16/2021 01:47:15

301070Cities 20202020834126Dobong-gu Municipal GovernmentRepublic of KoreaEast AsiaIntroduction0.1Please give a general description and introduction to your city including your city’s reporting boundary in the table below.2Description of city1Please completeDobong-gu is located in the northernmost part of Seoul, and acts as a gateway into Seoul. On the West is the Bukhansan National Park that connects the Baegundae Peak and Dobongsan Mt., and the Limited Development District. On the East is the Jungnangcheon stream, on the South is the Uicheon creating a border with Nowon-gu and Gangbuk-gu, and the Northern border is connected to Uijeongbu city. The total area is 20.84km², accounting for 3.4% of the total area of Seoul. The average temperature in Dobong-gu has risen by about 2.3°C over the past 100 years, well above the global average of 0.73°C. In particular, the city's annual average, highest and lowest temperatures have continued to rise over the past 50 years. The population of Dobong-gu stood at 336,698 as of 2019, a slight decrease from 1995 when the boundaries were established. The population per household has decreased, while the number of foreigners and those aged 65 or older has increased more than 2-3 folds. In the mid-1960s, the housing site development project began and a large-scale apartment town was constructed in Dobong-gu in the 1980s. Recently, large-scale apartments were built in Ssangmun-dong, Banghak-dong, and Chang-dong, and Dobong-gu has developed into a new apartment complex of Seoul. In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the goal of the United Nations and the international community for human prosperity, Dobong-gu established the first sustainable development ordinance in the country in 2015, established an administrative foundation including the sustainable development committee, and declared a vision for sustainable development to implement the strategic goals of five sectors, including climate adaptation, in 2017.In the same year, Dobong-gu served as a headstone of the local government council for sustainable development and has been striving to spread the value of sustainable development to the local governments, as it served as the president city for 3 terms, from August 2019 to July 2020.In 2003, the Dobong Environmental Classroom, the first environment themed classroom in the country, was opened to promote awareness of environmental conservation to future generations through ecological education and field activities. The classroom led the systematization and popularization of environmental education through volunteer education. As a result of various projects in the public and private sectors to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Dobong-gu under the Seoul Metropolitan Government's "Response to Climate Change, Seoul's Commitment" campaign in 2005, Dobong-gu is now the most eco-friendly city with the lowest electric consumption per person in Seoul, since 2017.In line with the Green New Deal policy of the central government and the Seoul Metropolitan Government to overcome the climate crisis, Dobong-gu plans to establish a mid- and long-term greenhouse gas reduction plan to realize the Green New Deal and Net Zero in 2050. It will execute the plans through meta-governance involving all private, government, industry, academic and research institutes. In addition, Dobong-gu plans to establish the popularity in local cities to cope with climate change by activating networks and sharing information with local governments in Korea and overseas.07/16/2021 01:47:15
