The average elevation of the city 1351 m above sea level and the prevailing climate in Ulaanbaatar is known as a local steppe climate. The total area of the city is 470 thousand hectares. The city has 9 administrative districts, of which Baganuur and Bagakhangai districts are located outside of the boundary of the capital. According to the climate zonation of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar falls in the climate zone with dry, cool summer and severe winter. Ulaanbaatar is one of cities with clear sky having about 250 sunny days a year. Ulaanbaatar is one of the regions with minimum wind in Mongolia. According to the longest meteorological observation conducted at the Buyant Uhaa (1940-2015) and Ulaanbaatar (1966-2015) stations, the long-term mean annual temperature is -4.4-+2.0 Celsius and sum precipitation vary between 61.1-403.6 mm. The absolute maximum temperature observed on 15 July 2005 +39.5 Celsius and absolute minimum on 9 January 2001 -46.7 Celsius. The maximum daily precipitation observed on 16 June 1967 with 82.5 mm per day. The 70 % of total precipitation fall in summer and only 3% in winter. From these data it is obvious that temperature fluctuations in Ulaanbaatar are high, the climate is extreme continental, low precipitation and dry, sub humid. The city has rapidly grown in size over the last decades as a result of rural to urban migration, attracting people seeking education, employment, services and business opportunities. Currently, the city is home to 1.5 million people, almost half of the nation’s population of 3.3 million. The city has been an engine of innovation, job creation and economic development, being at the center of Mongolia’s economic growth and responsible for over 60% of national GDP. Currently, Ulaanbaatar has a single city business center with activities and services largely found in one centralized area. Most of the municipal government agencies and many international and national organizations, businesses, trade and services organizations, cultural institutions and higher education institutions are located within the city center. | 07/16/2021 01:47:15 | |||
