It is also the third largest metropolitan area with nearly 6.5 million, following Île de France and Greater London. The City covers an area of 604.3 km2 (375.5 square miles) and is divided into 21 administrative districts. Madrid´s metropolitan area spans an area around 4,609.7 km². The area includes important communication infrastructures, making the city the main logistics centre not only in Spain but also in southern Europe. It also has an important motorway network, both radial and ring roads, and it is the centre of the national railway network and, therefore, provides convenient connections with other parts of the region as well as the rest of Spain and Europe. The most important Spanish airport, being one of the largest worldwide, Madrid-Barajas is also located inside the municipality boundaries. The services sector, which defines the City of Madrid´s production structure, accounts for 87.59 % of total economic activity. The most prominent services amongst these are those offered to companies, followed by transport and communications, housing and financial services.
