Sustainability goals and targets on GHG reductions in the Master plan is like this: • The municipal plan of Reykjavik includes a sustainable planning policy which includes the policy on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions: By 2020 netto emissions of greenhouse gasses is expected to have decreased by 35% and by 73% by 2050, relative to the emissions of 2007. A climate change adaption strategy will be formed. The main source of greenhouse gas emissions in Reykjavik is due to transport. In the municipal plan 2010-20330 he objective is to increase public transport and pedestrian and cycling traffic considerably with the aim that in 2030 the transport ratio to and from work will be as follows: 8% cycling, 22% pedestrian, 12% public transport, 58% by car. It is anticipated that each district will have charging-stations to encourage the use of electricity as energy source for various means of transport. - The municipal plan includes a cycling plan to follow up on increased cycling within the city. One aspect of the plan is construction of new cycle paths, and since 2010 cycle paths had doubled in length. The plan is to have ten folded the city’s cycle paths from in 2010 reaching 100 km by 2020. - The focus will be on less sprawl. 90% of new residentals units are expected to be developed within the current urban area instead of a previous estimation of 50%. More dense urban areas have several positive affects. In terms of green house gas emissions more dense urban areas shorten distances needed for travel by car and support public transportation systems, biking and walking - The policy is to decrease landfill waste and increase reuse and recycling. When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and 5 American regional councils, which are: Chicago Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; Denver Regional Council of Governments; Metropolitan Council, Twin Cities; Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and Mid-America Regional Council.
