It has 12 administrative districts of different size, 125 districts and 21 settlements. The Mayor of Moscow is the leading official in the executive, leading the Government of Moscow, which is the highest organ of executive power. The Moscow City Duma is the City Duma (city council or local parliament) and local laws must be approved by it. It includes 45 members who are elected for a five-year term on Single-mandate constituency basis.Most of the urban area is located on average at an altitude of 120 m above sea level. The length of the city is 51.7 km from north to south and 29.7 km from west to east. Moscow is located within the forest zone. Within the city there are more than 40 large forests. Moscow flora includes more than 1600 species of plants, including 22 native species of trees, 42 cultivated species of trees, 53 species of native shrubs, about 50 species of cultivated shrubs.The climate of Moscow is temperate continental, but unlike most European cities, located at similar latitudes, with more long and harsh winter. The annual temperature range in Moscow is 28 ° C. Lack of large reservoirs contributes to quite large temperature drops. The average annual temperature is 6 ° C.Moscow is the largest city in Russia in terms of population. Moscow is a fast-growing city. The population of 12,678.1 thousand people on January 1, 2020 was increased by 62.8 thousand people since January 1, 2019. It is estimated that the current population will grow to 24 million by 2035.Moscow is the financial center of Russia and has one of the largest municipal economies in Europe. Differnet types of industries are located in Moscow, including objects of the military-industrial complex, energy, chemistry and petrochemistry, light and food industries. The city is the largest transport hub of the country with 11 federal highways; 3 large river ports.Moscow with a history that dates over eight centuries is governed as a federal city that serves as the political, economic, cultural, and scientific center of Russia and Eastern Europe. Moscow has one of the world's largest urban economies and is one of the most expensive cities in the world. It is also one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the world. The Moscow International Business Center is one of largest financial centers of Europe and the world, and features some of Europe's tallest skyscrapers. There are more than 600 educational institutions in Moscow including 76 universities. There are lots of museums, theaters and other cultural object well known all over the world. The Moscow transportation network uses buses, trams, subway system, motorways, trains, helicopters and planes to provide connectivity between Moscow ' s districts and beyond. When using the inventory data for aggregation, comparison and trend analysis, please note that the inventory data is based on non-verified self-reported city inputs. The reported inventory may not include all emission sources within the city boundary.
Please note that this dataset may contain data from cities or, in some instances, groups of cities at different administrative levels. This includes metropolitan areas, combined authorities, and 5 American regional councils, which are: Chicago Metropolitan Mayors Caucus; Denver Regional Council of Governments; Metropolitan Council, Twin Cities; Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments; and Mid-America Regional Council.
